In 2017, shortly after the release of the second album, singer Emily A. Sprague lost her mother. A difficult period followed in which she developed a fear of letting people get close. She retreated to LA for a deep raw process. This is also where she started surfing and released Emily Alone, which was essentially a solo album released under the name Florist. “It's a bit cheesy, but I realized that life is better when you share it. The answer is not to isolate yourself and be alone.” The band released their fourth album 'Florist' last year, which was well received on all sides. With her band Florist she says she no longer feels alone. Florist has been named one of the best albums of the summer by Pitchfork, The AV Club, and Paste, while Bob Boilen of NPR's All Songs Considered calls it "the most beautiful music I've heard in 2022."
