Kumar Sublevao-Beat, known as Afrosideral, began his musical career in the late ’90s in Havana’s hip-hop scene, gaining recognition in the national music scene. Through collaborations with jazz, reggae, and Afro-Cuban musicians, he formed his own band, Kumar y Mate, in the 2000s. His rise as one of the most representative artists in Cuban alternative music was documented in the film “Habana Blues” and Gilles Peterson’s global project, “Havana Cultura.” After relocating to Barcelona and collaborating with Ojos De Brujo, he released the album “El Olimpo de los Orishas” in 2019 under the pseudonym Afrosideral, blending Afro-Cuban chants with electronic music. Currently working on “Orishas Zen,” a meditative album born during the COVID-19 lockdown, he continues to present both danceable music and collaborations with international artists, showcasing his influence across diverse genres and global stages.
