Thursday 7 November 2024 2024

Bab L’ Bluz (literally “The Door of the Blues”) is a French-Moroccan group formed in Marrakech in 2018 after Moroccan singer/guitarist Yousra Mansour met French guitarist/producer Brice Bottin. Passionate about Gnawa music, they decided to explore the guembri together. A new repertoire of 10 songs emerged from this French-Moroccan fusion. On 7 November, this group will be at the Kleine Zaal!

Armed with their electric guembris, Bab L’ Bluz brings a mix of Gnawa trance rhythms, Hassani songs from southern Morocco and Chaâbi rhythms. These elements intertwine their music with the magnetic fields of psychedelic rock and incense vapours. Led by a female doukkalia, the group pursues a revolutionary stance and is part of the Moroccan youth movement ‘Nayda’, a new wave of artists and committed musicians who draw inspiration from local heritage and sing lyrics about freedom in the Moroccan-Arabic dialect, darija.

The power quartet, highly active since its inception, travels the world to spread their hypnotic riffs and convey their mystical and liberating, headbanging frenzy to audiences – a true trademark of the group. Poetic and powerful, Bab L’ Bluz is an expanding universe, a sonic territory that transcends borders.
