WHAMANIA! is a live concert featuring a self-produced documentary on a big screen as a tribute to WHAM! It not only honors WHAM! but also highlights the exceptional friendship between George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. A friendship that led to successes like Club Tropicana, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, Freedom, Last Christmas, I’m Your Man, The Edge Of Heaven, and also George Michael’s first solo hits: Careless Whisper and A Different Corner.
George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley scored a total of five #1 hits in England and four in the Netherlands with WHAM!, including two solo songs by George Michael. For years, George and Andrew were a constant presence in the Top 10 charts, with hundreds of millions of fans worldwide and more than 30 million records sold. Later, Pepsi & Shirlie, apart from WHAM!, also scored two major top-10 hits!
In WHAMANIA!, the role of George Michael is portrayed by Jordan Roy, known from TV programs such as Better Than Ever (with an emotional and touching performance), X-Factor (where he was runner-up with pop group Adlicious), and The Voice of Holland where he sang The Edge of Heaven by WHAM! during The Knock Outs. This sparked an even greater love for George Michael, which culminated in the solo theater tour Freedom. A musical tribute to George Michael, with which Jordan Roy and his live band visited forty Dutch theaters.
Bert van Gulik is responsible for the pre- and after-parties surrounding WHAMANIA!. Beforehand, the DJ will project hits from the period 1975 to 1982 on a big screen. All the hits from that period that Andrew and George loved and practiced their first dance moves to will be shown in music videos. After the show, the DJ will play the best late 80s and early 90s dance music videos.
Netflix had the summer hit of 2023 with the release of the documentary about WHAM! That same year, WHAMANIA! started a grand tour of the most popular concert halls and theaters. With their energetic show, which stands for #fun, #friendship & #ambition, they attract full houses everywhere.
