Support: Melle de Boer
It’s been 20 years since the release of Smutfish’s debut. ‘Lawnmower Mind’. An album recorded in a cottage owned by Melle’s father with no idea of the music world and its workings. The record fell into a good place. It was voted ‘Album of the Year’ by The Hague pop journalists. The Volkskrant wrote about ‘sinister gem resting on a bed of beautifully worded male suffering. Performances at Noorderslag, Reeperbahn, Popkomm, Berlin, The Crossing Border festival and South by Southwest in Austin Texas and with heroes Daniel Johnston and Johnny Dowd followed. Following this, records were recorded in Germany and, among others, the album ‘Trouble’ was released by Dutch label Excelsior Recordings. Currently, Melle is mostly painting and doing the gigs he likes. Like this one in the support act of Daryll-Ann.
