With a gigantic dose of humor, poetry and love for music, the bunch has left audiences stunned in the nation and abroad.   Stealing works since 1988According to themselves, De Kift is unable to write lyrics themselves. Thus they 'steal' lyrics from world literature. Inspirations are authors like Wolfgang Borchert, Jan Arends, Venedikt Jerofejef, Flannery O’Connor, Werner Schwab and Daniil Charms. From opera (Vier voor Vier), via music theatre (Kees de Jongen and Frank Groothof), through film scores (Het Zwijgen) or even figurant in movies (De Arm van Jezus): De Kift is participating from one art form into another. Collaborating with Franz Ferdinand, Calexico, theatre group Tryater or Tania Kross? De Kift feels familliar with every single thing they undertakeFrom cigar box to cookbookThe band has a 'Zilveren Harp' award (2001) and a 'Zilveren Krekel' (2012) standing on their mantelpiece, and rightly so. Because De Kift continues to renew itself. Albums are not released as 'just another disc', but are packaged as a painting, cigar box or cookbook. What will the new album, released later this year, bring? We'll see. One thing is certain: their live show will be, as usual, a matchless circus.
