Death Valley Girls’ latest release, “Island in the Sky,” shows a different approach than their previous albums. During singer Bloomgarden’s period of illness, she wanted to focus more on writing introspective music. In her earlier work, she wrote primarily to help her listeners cope with their own suffering. During her illness, she began to turn more inward, and this marked the first time she consciously reflected on her own suffering.
On “Island in the Sky,” she uses the album as a manual for spiritual healing and as a road map for future incarnations of self.
