DOTAN

The folk melodies of a traveling soul

Sunday 10 November 2024 2024

Dotan has always used music as a means of expression, from his humble beginnings a decade ago in cafes and living room shows. His debut album “7 Layers” told a personal story and became a bestseller in the Netherlands, with international success in Europe and North America. His tour of North America catapulted his career to worldwide recognition. Now this Dutch singer-songwriter returns to PAARD on 10th of November for a performance highlighting his new musical direction.

Armed with his acoustic guitar, Dotan began writing for his upcoming album, stories closest to his heart. Unlike his earlier, darker work, his latest collection of songs is inspired by light, the opposite of darkness. He was inspired by music he listened to as a child with his father, such as James Taylor, Neil Young and Cat Stevens. He found beauty in the rough edges of the production and raw honesty in the lyrics. As he wrote for his new record, Dotan developed a healthier relationship with music. He discovered that music could sound sunny and bright, be inspiring and celebrate life. This discovery is at the heart of Dotan’s upcoming album, a folk-like record that tells the story of happier chapters in his life and looks ahead to what is to come.
