Eliades Ochoa was born in 1946 and started playing guitar when he was six. He made some money for his family playing in cafés in Cuba. Besides being a member of Buena Vista Social Club, Ochoa was a part of a ton of other musical projects, including the album CubAfrica which came uit in 1998 together with Manu Dibango. Many albums and Grammy nominations, Ochoa is still seen as a key figure of the traditional Cuban music and one of the best guitarists of his generation.

Guitar legend Eliades Ochoa, often called the Cuban Johnny Cash, will perform in PAARD on February 21st 2020. Being one of the most important members of Buena Vista Social Club, he worked with Compay Segundo to bring some new life into the career of the musical master. He recorded the first version of world hit Chan Chan and in 1997 he won a Grammy with Buena Vista Social Club for the best tropical Latin-act.
