Eliades Ochoa was born in 1946 and started playing guitar when he was six. He made some money for his family playing in cafés in Cuba. Besides being a member of Buena Vista Social Club, Ochoa was a part of a ton of other musical projects, including the album CubAfrica which came uit in 1998 together with Manu Dibango. Many albums and Grammy nominations, Ochoa is still seen as a key figure of the traditional Cuban music and one of the best guitarists of his generation.
