HANDED – AMONGSTER

Thursday 20 April 2017 2017

HandedHanded is Stef Classen’s band, who is the winner of the third edition of The Netherlands’ Best Songwriter. In peace and quiet, Stef has been working on his songs, in which his subtle sense of melody, dynamics and arrangement, guided by his recognizable vocal quality, come together as one. Along the road of his musicianship, he discovered that his songs would gain more power and expressiveness if they’d be played by a full band. These are songs that come straight from his heart and that will flow straight into the heart of the listener; they don’t exist by time and place, but by emotion and genuineness. A more experienced listener might even hear influences of ‘I Forget When We Were’ by Ben Howard or some sonic experiments by Bon Iver -and those are quite some big cheeses to be compared with!

Amongster
Sometimes, when you’re carefully searching for words, you decide just to close your eyes and listen. Amongster takes us on a fantastic voyage with no set destination. On their first album, their music lacks a definitive pigeonhole as for genre, however, ‘intimate pop songs mixed with warm electronics and danceable melancholia in which rebellious rhythms take the cake’ is as an attractive, as a spot-on description. The band has already shared stages with indie geniuses like Editors and Bladzun and they’ve made some delightful tracks, like ‘Leo’ and ‘Salrow’. Please do get carried away with the dreamy vocals, which are carried by the beautifully ripened voice of their front man.
