In 1973 Jan Akkerman was voted the Best Guitarist in the world by the readers of the British music magazine Melody Maker. This token of recognition brought him world fame. However, the idiosyncratic Amsterdammer never rested on his laurels, but instead continued to develop. Live audiences all over the world still enjoy his sublime technique, his unique sense of timing and harmony and his ability to seemingly carelessly combine jazz, rock, blues, dance and classical music.
