At the end of 2023 it is announced that Jeangu will play the role of Jesus in the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, directed by Ivo van Hove. The theater spectacle runs from January 2024 to November 2024 and receives rave 5-star reviews in all national newspapers. Jeangu is also nominated for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Major Musical at the 2024 Musical Awards. His new single Young, Awkward & Lonely is released on April 26, 2024

The career of Jeangu Macrooy (Paramaribo, 1993) got off to a flying start from the release of his debut EP Brave Enough in 2016. Soon he was named 3FM Serious Talent and shone at festivals such as Noorderslag, Lowlands and North Sea Jazz. His powerful and infectious debut album High On You earned him a permanent place in the Dutch music scene. Meanwhile, he has nominations to his name for the Edison Pop Awards and a Musical Award for his five-star role as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. In addition, his voice and message made a deep impression during his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021.
During this intimate show, Jeangu Macrooy brings his soulful music back to its essence with only piano and vocals. Together with pianist Patrick Rugebregt and three backing vocalists from the ZO! Gospel Choir, he will give a unique, acoustic rendition of his colorful repertoire. This will include old favorites like Grow and Step Into The Water as well as songs from his upcoming fourth album, such as his new single Happier.
