In 2024, Joel released his debut album Dromers Slapen Niet. The album received rave reviews from traditional media like NRC and Het Parool, but his debut also attracted a lot of attention on social media. Its most streamed tracks, Beetje Vrijheid and Stick To Your Ways, reached the Viral Top 50 lists in the Netherlands. The latter track also became tune of the month on Omroep Zwart’s radio show Wat Anders and featured in the A-rotation on 3FM. A club tour of packed halls followed in the spring. From Rotterdam to Groningen, Joel’s live show created a growing fanbase. At festivals like Zwarte Cross and the Nijmegen Summer Festivals last summer, he also managed to draw full tents. All this together ensures that established artists and opinion makers label Joël as one of the great promises of Dutch pop music.

Joël Domingos is a Dutch singer, rapper and songwriter-producer. Joël grew up in a large, multicultural family. His father took him to Cape Verdean dance parties and introduced him to African artists like Cesaria Evora. With his mother, he dissected lyrics by songwriters such as Billy Joel and Simon & Garfunkel. However, his own heart was mainly in hip-hop, R&B and alternative pop music. He now knows how to blend all these influences from different genres into a fresh, distinctive style: danceable Dutch pop meets alternative hip-hop. With soulful vocals, catchy pop hooks, hip-hop flows and authentic Cape Verdean rhythms, Joël weaves a tapestry of harmony. On 3 May, this up-and-coming singer will perform in our Kleine Zaal!
