“All the guilt, shame, and paranoia can feel like a disease growing inside you,” she says. “You feel that no one will understand, that no one really cares, and this becomes your entire reality. Writing songs about it means giving yourself permission to even speak. It’s a kindness to yourself to pick up the brush and draw, and it can gain its own momentum.”
