One is a jazz legend with an incredible record of achievements, the others are part of a young, fresh jazz collective. It sounds like a golden combination. Gary Bartz, the saxophone player who is active at the top of the jazz world for years, joined forces with Maisha, six musicians from London who have already shown great musical capability.
Bartz already played with big names like Art Blakey and Miles Davis, and the American musician gave a show in 1973 at the 7th edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival. In 1969, Bartz formed Ntu Troop, a band that gave the saxophone player commercial success. In this spirit, the composer continues with Maisha, a jazz group formed by drummer Jake Long, Together they make 70’s style spiritual jazz.
