Raised in New York in a church, Michelle David began singing at age four and joined her first group, The Mission of Love, at age five. During her career, she traveled the world with the Broadway musical “Mama,” contributed to successful theatrical productions such as “The Sound of Motown,” “Glory of Gospel” and “Mahalia,” and recorded for artists such as Diana Ross and Michael Bolton. All this happened before she released six critically acclaimed gospel-soaked albums with the True-tones.
Michelle David (vocals), Paul Willemsen (guitar, bass guitar), Onno Smit (guitar, bass guitar) and Bas Bouma (drums) form a tight-knit team that seamlessly combines their individual talents, resulting in the distinctive sound that defines Michelle David & the True-tones. The band’s instrumentation, characterized by funky bass lines, and Michelle David’s powerful vocals, form a vibrant tapestry in the studio environment. With their new album “Brothers & Sisters,” Michelle David & the True-tones have created a musical journey that resonates with the soulful spirit of their live shows, inviting audiences to groove with them on a timeless musical journey.
Moreover, the band’s discography has also been praised; they received an Edison nomination, while their previous album “Truth & Soul” became Album of the Month on FIP radio in France and Album of the Year on Craig Charles’ BBC Radio 6 Music show. The group made numerous radio and TV appearances and was even invited to play their music on the biggest national TV show during the 2022 Winter Olympics.
