MY GIRLFRIEND

Frontman Gijs Schouten may sometimes be mistaken for a Robert Smith lookalike, complete with messy hair and lipstick, but his The Hague synthpop group My Girlfriend sounds nothing like The Cure. The songs are far too lively for that, much more rooted in the indie rock of 21st-century bands like The Wombats and The Killers. Originally started as a trio, the group has now grown into a quintet, complete with an abundance of synthesizers and an even clearer focus on catchy choruses à la ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division.’ On Friday, March 21, My Girlfriend will play at PAARD!
