As a young boy, Neil Cowley studied classical music, and at the age of 10 he performed a Shostakovich piano concerto in front of a full house at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. In his mid-teens, he turned his back on his classical career and moved into the world of old-school R&B, soul and funk. He collaborated with some of the most successful bands of the time, including The Brand New Heavies and Zero 7, and formed his own chill-out production duo, Fragile State. Backed by Rex Horan on bass and Evan Jenkins on drums, the three-piece band always manages to deliver impressive pieces of music. On 11 May, this jazz band will be in our Kleine Zaal!
