Jazz jazz jazz

Friday 20 December 2024

It all begins in 1993 at Amsterdam’s Soul Kitchen, where Benjamin Herman and DJ Graham B take the stage together. While Graham B spins records, Benjamin plays sax. A unique combination. This eventually leads to the eight-piece New Cool Collective, a band that has played countless times in leading clubs and at festivals around the world, both in its regular eight-piece lineup and as a nineteen-piece big band. On December 20, this acclaimed jazz band will be in the Grote Zaal!

New Cool Collective consists of saxophonist Benjamin Herman, guitarist Rory Ronde, drummer Joost Kroon, percussionists Frank van Dok and Jos de Haas, keyboardist Willem Friede, bassist Leslie Lopez and trumpeter David Rockefeller.

In recent years, the band has been working on a strong series of releases. Adding to its impressive catalog are albums like Electric Monkey Sessions 1 & 2, a big band collaboration with Orchestra Baobab saxophonist Thierno Koité and the quirky electronic sounds on Dansé Dansé. The band also picked up another Edison Jazz nomination in 2021 for Trippin’ Redux. A tribute to the collaboration with Tony Allen, with renewed versions of the recording sessions Allen and New Cool Collective held for their joint album Trippin (2005).
