This time the first two hours of the evening are a tribute to Joy Division and New Order!
Joy Division
You will probably know the band around iconic post-punk hero Ian Curtis from their legendary hit song ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ from 1980. Characteristic about the band are Peter Hook’s iconic bass lines and the voice of Curtis, with his lyrics about anxiety and misunderstanding. The band was one of the leaders of the post-punk generation, even though they only existed for three years. Bands like Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, The Cure and U2 are directly influenced by Joy Division.
New Order
Directly after Curtis’ suicide, Joy Division stopped existing. The other band members continued with singer Bernard Sumner under the name New Order. The band is now more driven by alternative electronics, and mixes melodic synths with propelling bass lines. They quickly found their own unique sound and with ‘Blue Monday’ they have an instant classic that belongs both in the bedroom and on the dance floor.
