The band already started writing new material in 2018, but it didn’t work well enough. In 2019 new music was written in the studio. This was due to the less serious approach that the band had, which was a little more playful and without pressure. You are able to hear this in their songs on the upcoming album Curandero. As Mendoza calls it: “Border music without borders.”

Orkesta Mendoza, formed around band leader Sergio Mendoza, is a pleasure for any lover of Spanish culture. Within the first notes you can already imagine yourself in Central America with a cold cerveza and some amigos around you. Sergio was born on the US/Mexican border and that is reflected in his music. A mix of cumbia, mariachi and r&b. Similar to a band like XIXA but a little less dark. The orchestra leader previously played in Calexico and Devotchka, but Mendoza has also been playing with his own orchestra for a number of years now. The collective will play at PAARD on the 10th of May.
