EINSTEINBARBIE is the band with the sexiest audience in the world. At least, that’s what frontwoman Stella Bergsma says. She formed the band in 2007, together with her musical partner Steven de Munnik. Their collaboration resulted in excitingly strange, but most of all incredibly tasty music.
Steven and Stella assembled a group of talented musicians, and started performing throughout the Netherlands. Soon they were noted for their fresh mixture of pop, hip hop, rock, jazz and sometimes even classical music. Nobody seemed to know how to label the band, and the band didn’t care.
They played at pop festivals, rock clubs, art galleries, jazz venues, and poetry slams. They seemed to be at home everywhere. When asked to explain this, they answered: ‘We make music that expresses how we feel. Sometimes it’s deep, sometimes it’s shallow. Sometimes loud and mean, sometimes subtle and sensual. Live with it.’
EINSTEINBARBIE’S
There is one constant in EINSTEINBARBIE’S sound, though: Stella’s lyrics. They are not of the ordinary kind. They shock, they are sexy, they are poetic and although they may hit you hard, they are always right on the dot.
Their sound kept evolving, and come 2012, it had become rawer and intenser than ever before. Joined by producer Jürgen Perier, EINSTEINBARBIE locked themselves into the Dutch Wisseloord Studios, to record their single Petty Cash. An urgent and twisted pop/rock song, with a raw, female energy. Doesjka van Hoogdalem, formerly the right hand of the late Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, directed the video clip for Petty Cash: a memorable visual ode to women, sex, life and death.
The future looks bright for EINSTEINBARBIE. They made it to the finals of the Grand Prix of the Netherlands (the largest Dutch band competition), their single is taking off with light speed, and they have never been more ready to blow you off your seats. Leo Gstrein
Leo Gstrein is terug! Met een band die staat als het Witte Huis waagt de singersongwriter met de vergulde stem en de vele muzikale gedaanten zich opnieuw op podiumpad. Betoverender dan ooit. Rijk, swingend en rockend door vier decennia Britse en Amerikaanse popmuziek. Zó mooi kan popmuziek zijn. In pophoofdstad Den Haag is Leo Gstrein allang geen onbekende meer. Al twintig jaar geleden beklom hij voor het eerst de bühne, nog zonder gitaar, maar wel gewapend met zijn prachtige, open zangstem, als frontman van de legendarische rockband Nojoke.
Pas met de geboorte van Frezno Falls kwam Gstreins muzikale en veelzijdige talent tot volle bloei. Met zijn tot in de puntjes verzorgde rocksongs bezorgde Gstrein Den Haag zijn eigen Big Star: meezingklaar, melancholiek en altijd vol melancholieke zeggingskracht. Frezno Falls bracht twee ep’s en een cd uit, oogstte jubelende recensies en bespeelde onder meer het Waterpopfestival, Delft City Beats en Polderpop.
