Paardcafé: Maria Iskariot

Friday 11 October 2024 2024

Mary Iscariot is the patron saint of debatable behavior. It’s semi-adult female punk rock from Flanders. Hopeful hopelessness in noisy stanza, chorus, stanza. Love for the unloved, figs after Easter, but primarily a knee-jerk reaction to sinners. The songs are about growing up, no longer being able to distinguish right from wrong, being confused by yourself and the conditions of this time. It’s about wanting different, but not knowing how – and ultimately realizing that we too are benevolent assholes.

“Pick up the phone Becky! This new punk rock band Chattermag’s lead singer/songwriter Kate, loves normies, won’t cut her hair and fights like a boy like a girl can to. Her room’s like a mess but the band carves the coolest songs from her everyday life experiences. Kate, Johan, Mira, Oliver, Jana, Roan and Ray will see you at the party – it could be bomb for the minute.”
