Warekes is an international collective, founded in 2019 in The Hague by Martín Mayo, that aims to create a borderless New Folklore. Their music is rooted in the folkloric melodies and rhythms of Venezuela and addresses both universal human experiences and social inequality. Their first album, Everyday Wonders, celebrates the small, shared moments of everyday life, such as making coffee (Café mañanero) or cycling home at night (Madrugatonada).
During their performances, Warekes transports the audience to the atmosphere of the South American jungle with nature sounds and traditional singing. The name Warekes comes from the Chayma language and means “frogs”, referring to the small rivers where these animals sing together in a harmonious counter-voice. This symbolizes the essence of the band: a collective, joyful musical experience without borders.
