ROYAL TRUX

Royal Trux is back together and they’re back in action! Look out, White Stripes, because Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema started ruffling feathers back in the 90’s and this rocking guy/girl-duo is planning to keep on doing so for a long time. ‘Everything in the pot, whether you like it, or not’; that’s the duo’s simple yet crystal clear vision on their unique sense of style. Royal Trux can make any genre of music without losing their distinct sound, ranging from world music and teeny-bop, to jazz and punk rock.

Haggerty and Herrema met each other in Washington DC’s underground punk scene and they moved to New York City together when they founded Royal Trux; by that time, Neil Haggerty was also involved in a punk band called Pussy Galore. Inspired by big names like Lou Reed and Television, the duo started their musical journey of experimentation in the late 80’s, which eventually resulted in a record deal in 1988; Drag City/Dominion signed them and gave them the opportunity to release their first album. In 1993, their sophomore album, ‘Cats and Dogs’ appeared in the record stores and this album was heavily influenced by roots, grunge and punk.

After Nirvana’s breakthrough that was set to transform the music industry forever, the underground scene suddenly turned into a petri dish for talent that would spread like viruses. This led to the two musicians attracting the attention of major record label Virgin, with which they signed a contract for another three albums to be recorded, only to return to Drag City/Dominion in 1998. Shortly after releasing ‘Pound for Pound’ in 2000, the musicians fell off the radar back in 2001 and they weren’t heard from for a long time. Haggarty was still working on a solo project called ‘Howling Hex’ by that time, releasing another bunch of albums. Now they’re back together and we have the pleasure to receive them in our concert hall. That means that YOU can buy tickets and go see them live again!
