One thing is certain: SEPULTURA is one of the major names in the history of heavy metal. It is the most successful Brazilian heavy metal band in history and perhaps the most important heavy metal band of the ’90s. Being on the road for almost 30 years, founding a genre of its own and influencing a generation of younger bands, these Brazilians have proved to be a true institution. To date, SEPULTURA has released 12 albums, sold over 20 million albums worldwide and earned multiple gold and platinum records across the globe. This Brazilian (thrash)metalband Sepultura can’t and won’t be stopped. Their unique sound and belligerent backstory inspired countless young bands around the globe, but success often has a downside. Sepultura seemed to have fallen into a bottomless pit after the departure of vocalist/guitarist Max Cavalera in 1996. The band saw a light at the end of the tunnel with the release of album ‘Roorback’ in 2003. The media praised the album for redefining Sepultura’s identity and sound which no longer seemed to rely on Max Cavalera.
Sepultura signs with Nuclear Beast in 2011 which confirms that Sepultura is back on track. Leading metal magazines praised the bands latest release ‘Kairos’ describing it as their best album since their classic albums ‘Arise’, ‘Chaos A.D.’ and ‘Roots’. Now it’s the public turn to decide whether or not the band has managed to maintain their cult-status.
Hammercult from Israel has won the international Metal Battle at Wacken Open Air in 2011, after which their debut album ‘Anthems of the Damned’ was released on the German label Sonic Attack Records in April 2012. The release of their CD was followed by a European tour with bands like Sepultura, Hatebreed and Malevolent Creation, ending with another performance at Wacken Open Air. Currently they are working on their next CD, which is due to be released somewhere this year.
