Sophie Straat studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and wrote her thesis ‘Uit Heimwee Naar Amsterdam’ about the cargo bike. For her graduation project she made the single ‘Groen Amsterdam’. This song was an immediate success. Due to this success, she released the album ‘T Is Niet Mijn Schuld’ with producer and musician Wieger Hoogendorp. Although her smart songs can come across as funny, it is not a gimmick and the topics in these songs are, in her own words, ‘deadly serious’.

The Dutch folk singer Sophie Straat comes to PAARD! Sophie grew up in De Pijp, Amsterdam. Her songs give you a little glimpse into the life of a green cargo bike owner, the Zuidas worker and the child who just moved to Amsterdam North. In 2021 Sophie released the song ‘Tweede Kamer’ in collaboration with Goldband. The song quickly became the feminist anthem of the year!
