Then the seed was planned for this long cherished wish: an album dedicated to Monk’s music. But I wanted more: to seek a collaboration with the young talents from the hip-hop and soul corner of today. Because Monk’s music is timeless. Because it lends itself to fusion with other genres Because it has inspired many musicians before and after me and because I hope to reach and inspire a new, young generation of music lovers with it. Since its foundation in 2006, Sven Hammond has been known for rock, soul and blues: styles that always sound familiar, but never get boring. The band has spent a lot of time in the studio over the past year and is now putting the finishing touches on the new album ‘Sphere’, which will be released in the spring of 2021. A creation with idiosyncratic arrangements of the music of jazz legend Thelonious Monk, supplemented with exciting raps from the creme de la creme of the Dutch rap scene.
On April 29th, 2021, the always innovative band Sven Hammond will provide a seated show in PAARD. The band goes back to its origins and focuses on authenticity and pure emotion: what you see is what you get.
