Koorn (founder of the successful rock band Hallo Venray) and van Zevenbergen have released two albums in recent years full of honest twee pop, with influences from The Pastels, The Field Mice, and Stereolab, among others.

While some artists spend their entire musical careers striving for grand gestures and continue to make Bono-esque statements, there are also creatives who keep things much closer to home. Sometimes quite literally, in the neighborhood where they live. After all, what’s happening just around the corner, at the bakery, or in the park?
Under the banner of The Grey Pants, Henk Koorn and Elke van Zevenbergen create unpretentious, unpolished “windowsill pop,” where they reflect on and sing about the small things in life. The two songwriters intentionally keep the music simple: a rhythm box, a guitar, and their charming vocal harmonies. Not much more is needed for their receptive, understated sound without frills.
