THE HAGUE SONGBOOK EXCHANGE

Thursday 25 January 2024 2024

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, something unique is set to happen at PAARD: The Hague Songbook Exchange! For this evening, electronic music producers will exchange songs with bands and acts from various genres. The producers and musicians choose a composition from each other to rearrange in their own style.

The Hague Songbook Exchange is a project by the record label and platform Antilounge, bridging the gap between different genres. Musicians from both worlds collaborate in an exchange of music and knowledge, learning from each other’s expertise and exploring new musical paths.

This is the lineup of artists who are embarking on the experiment together

  • Wildekind

Emotionally charged lyrics and accessible compositions.

Wilde Kind stands out from other bands. They create an extraordinary interplay of emotions by combining meaningful and bittersweet lyrics with accessible compositions. The music of Wilde Kind refuses to be confined to a specific genre. Most songs incorporate elements of (dark) folk, alternative music, and melancholy. At the heart of the band is singer and guitarist Danella, born in Namibia. Her bold lyrics range from socio-political commentary to nostalgia for her homeland. Her bilingual compositions in English and Afrikaans take the listener on a unique musical journey.

  • Trenth

    High volume spoken word

TRENTH is a spoken-word punk band from The Hague, Netherlands. The band came together in 2020 and quickly recorded their first EP, “TRENTHSEKSUEEL,” at Guy Tavares’ studio, releasing it under the Motorwolf label. Influences range from Henry Rollins to Iggy Pop, while the music truly comes to life on stage, showcasing their best talent: shocking the audience.

  • Roni Dot

    born in the wrong era

Roni Dot would have liked to be born in a different decade. Raised in a musical family near Tel Aviv, she longed for the synthpop of the 80s or the chansons of Paris. These stylish old-school inspirations are well reflected in her live performances and her indiepop-theatrical sound. The ability to combine thoughtful, sometimes existential lyrics with light pop melodies can also define Roni Dot’s bittersweet style. The singles from her latest album “Flamingo pink” were premiered on the Dutch music platform “Maxazine,” mentioned on “3voor12 Den Haag,” the music blog “Space Sour UK,” “De Muziekplank,” “Musiczine,” featured in popular playlists like “New Music Friday,” and aired on the well-known Israeli indie radio station “Hakatze.” Roni Dot’s recent performances include the renowned Oerol festival, Tellerlikker festival, Tour de Terrase, Haagse Popweek, Gluren bij de Buren festival in the Netherlands, Live Im Grunen, Rosa Laub, and Altonale festival in Germany, among many others. Studio releases: “Flamingo pink” (scheduled for release in 2023), “What May Come” (2017), “Roni Dot” (2013 EP).

  • Kopsmart

    Incomprehensibly beautiful

Something that disappears, you will miss… That’s what Scheveningen musicians Arie Spaans and Remco Prins thought too. Therefore, they started recording new music with lyrics in the Schevenings dialect. They draw their musical inspiration from the primordial soup of music history. The band KOPSMART consists of Scheveningen and The Hague musicians. The debut album “Schrêwende mêwe” was released in 2022. The new EP by KOPSMART is called “Zulluvergrês

  • Bleedroot

    Activist, loud, everything you want

Leftist baby-eating, anti-fascist, pro-choice, pussy-bleeding, cisgender-oppressive, wild feminist, and angry queer vegetable-punk, committed to social justice and gender equality. With a passion for activism and music, they strive for change and awareness in society

  • Alina Valentina

Cynical poetry grabs you, only to keep you awake all night afterward.

Although she entered the mortal realm on Valentine’s Day, Alina Valentina is not someone who romanticizes life on earth through rose-tinted glasses. Instead, she explores an alternative dark fairytale universe through her misanthropic synthwave music. Using analog synthesizers, cynical poetry, and a detached vocal performance, she conveys a camp sensibility from her hideout in the Netherlands. By blending the nostalgic wonders of retro video games, sci-fi noir, and new wave/post-punk music, Valentina’s creations possess an enchanting and cathartic quality. Her sound resonates with the enchanting mystery of Kraków Loves Adana, the unwavering attitude of Molly Nilsson, and the passionate Minuit Machine.

  • Sterk Water

    Post punk!

Sterk Water is a ‘one-woman band’ (+ producer) from Amsterdam. They create electronic post-punk with Dutch-language lyrics.

  • Poison Lolly

Follow the pendulum with your eyes and enter a sweet but toxic trance.

The duo Poison Lolly combines piano, vocals, and minimalist patterns with self-developed sounds, effects, and guitar to create hypnotic songs. With alienating soundscapes and raw repetitive patterns, Poison Lolly blends soundscapes from electronic dance music with classical minimalist influences.

  • FilosofischeStilte

Hybrid mix of different styles from various corners of the world.

Luuk Graham, also known as Filo or FilosofischeStilte, is a producer/beatmaker from The Hague. He is known for his instrumental tracks that navigate between hip-hop and electronic dance music: digital, abstract, emotional, meditative, melancholic, featuring a lot of sub and percussion; in short, a highly personal hybrid mix of different styles from various corners of the world. Since 2011, he has released various projects on labels both domestically and internationally, including Lowriders Recordings, Antilounge, Saturate Records, and Noah’s Ark.

  • Tonal Verges

    Dark & broken beats

Tonal Verges started 25 years ago in the heyday of gabber. He left behind the hardcore-techno sound and formed his CAPSLOCK project, focusing on dark, broken beats in the more experimental breakcore scene. After a decade with many releases and performances, he launched the new project Tonal Verges in 2013. He operates in the newly revived niche-doomcore scene, producing a sound also inspired by industrial electro and old-school and new techno. Albums and EPs have been released on labels such as Haunted, Ketacore Records, Spirit Of Progress, Zuur, along with tracks on various compilations.
