HEROES: MEAT PUPPETS

Meat Puppets’ story begins with three young guys, with a love for music, who are immersed in the psychedelic drug culture in the 1970s in Arizona. They found their sound in punk rock and they became one of the most important bands of the American underground scene. Meat Puppets soon became mainstream rock stars and even toured with the band Nirvana. During the legendary MTV Unplugged in 1993 in New York, Kurt Cobain pulled the ‘Meat’ brothers on stage to play the songs ‘Plateau’, ‘Oh, Me’ and ‘Lake of Fire’. And on June 16, 2019 these icons will play at Paard als Heroes.

On March 8 2019 their first album since 1995 is released, ‘Dusty Notes’. At their induction to the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2017, Meat Puppets, one of the most compelling, original and enduring bands in rock history, managed to honor both their story and introduce the next chapter.

MUNKY will be opening for  ‘Meat Puppets’ on 16 June. Munky has a grungy disco sound. Expect pure passion, deep grooves and heavy sounds from this band.

 

HEROES
We’re coming closer to our 50-th birthday in 2022, and as a celebration Paard chooses 50 iconic artists from her program that we are going to call ‘Heroes’. With this label we put artists who played an important role in the history of pop in the centre of attention and place them in a musical-historical perspective.
