YELLOWJACKETS

Pioneers in jazz

Monday 2 June 2025

The Yellowjackets, regarded worldwide as one of the top bands in jazz fusion, were formed in the late 1970s as guitarist Robben Ford’s backing band. Together, they recorded their first album in 1980. Shortly afterwards, Ford decided to take a different musical direction, which led to the formation of the contemporary Yellowjackets: a trio consisting of Russell Ferrante, William Kennedy and Bob Mintzer. With the addition of Australian bassist Dane Alderson, the Yellowjackets managed to confirm their status as one of the most influential and beloved jazz groups.

The American group, known for their exciting grooves, funky rhythms and virtuoso solos, was nominated no less than 17 times for a Grammy Award, of which they won two. With their distinctive jazz fusion sound and decades of dedication, the Yellowjackets remain an inspiration to music lovers worldwide. On 2 June, they will bring their influential sound to our Grolsch Zaal!

In their 43-year history, the Yellowjackets have recorded 25 albums, received 17 Grammy nominations (2 of which they won), done countless sold-out tours and achieved worldwide critical acclaim and commercial success.

Over the years, the band has undergone several line-up changes. The current formation – Russell Ferrante, William Kennedy and Bob Mintzer – has never failed to meet the inevitable challenges of change. They have maintained an exceptionally high quality of musicianship that rivals many, but is a surprise to no one who knows and appreciates the band and their music.

The most recent addition to the band is Australian bassist Dane Alderson. With his exceptional rhythmic sensitivity and natural knack for groove, Dane brings a fresh energy to the band and adds a youthful approach to their music.

This concert is a collaboration of PAARD with ProJazz.
